At the Quirino, where the first postwar cinema festival is taking place, there’s a wonderful film called Les Enfants du Paradis. An Italian one, by a young director, also had a big impact on me because it tells an (apparently true) story that happened in Rome in ’44 – the city where I too lived that year – but which I would never have imagined was possible: Rome, Open City.
They have named the mayor of Rome: a prince, no less, Doria Pamphili. But they say he’s an anti-Fascist prince.
